Meliá Hotels International, Spain’s leading hotel group and the third-largest in Europe, is set to accelerate its expansion with 23 new hotel openings in 2026. From Southeast Asia to South America, and from Europe to the Indian Ocean, the brand will bring its renowned Spanish hospitality to some of the world’s most coveted destinations.
This move follows a remarkable 2025, marked by the debut of several landmark properties. Notable among them were the ME by Meliá hotels in Malta, Lisbon, Marbella, and Málaga, as well as Paradisus by Meliá in Fuerteventura. The opening of ZEL Punta Cana, the first lifestyle all-inclusive in the Caribbean, created in collaboration with tennis icon Rafael Nadal, further highlighted Meliá’s commitment to redefining luxury hospitality. As the company builds on its recent successes, 2026 promises even more, with new hotels poised to offer elevated luxury and purpose-driven growth.
Luxury Destinations from Bali to Seychelles
Among the most anticipated openings for 2026 is Paradisus Bali, the brand’s first property in Southeast Asia. Set to open in Nusa Dua, Bali, Paradisus Bali will offer a unique wellness experience. The resort’s Wellness Designed by Destination philosophy integrates Bali’s healing traditions, mindful rituals, and sensory landscapes into every aspect of the guest journey. Guests will enjoy spa therapies inspired by Balinese purification practices, and movement sessions grounded in the island’s natural energy flow. The resort will also feature the brand’s Destination Inclusive® program, with curated cultural activities such as the melukat purification, guided visits to temples like Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, and family-friendly events like the Devdan Show.
In April 2026, Meliá will unveil the newly reimagined Paradisus Cancún in Mexico, following a year-long renovation. The transformed property will offer contemporary sophistication, while still honoring the Yucatán Peninsula’s soul. The resort will emphasize wellness, with local rituals and natural materials incorporated into the design. Its Destination Inclusive offering will also feature unique activities, including cenote explorations and encounters with Mayan culture, enriching the family-friendly experience.
Meliá’s expansion will also include the opening of Gran Meliá Dubai Jumeirah at Jumeirah 1 in December 2026. Offering stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and a curated selection of dining, wellness, and event spaces, this new property will set a benchmark for luxury in Dubai. Additionally, the Seychelles will see Meliá’s first mixed-use development, featuring a 120-key hotel and branded residences, with a rooftop bar overlooking Eden Island and St. Anne Marine Park.
The Meliá Collection and Messi’s Luxury Vision
Meliá’s boutique brand, The Meliá Collection, will also see a boost with several new, distinct properties in 2026. The integration of MiM Hotels, part of a strategic partnership with football legend Lionel Messi, will enhance the Collection’s experience-led luxury offering. MiM properties in Sitges, Sotogrande, Mallorca, Ibiza, Baqueira Beret, and Andorra will feature contemporary luxury, sleek design, and a strong focus on wellness and sustainability.
In Buenos Aires, Casa Lucia will undergo a full refurbishment, allowing guests to rediscover the iconic Mihanovich Building in the city’s historic Retiro neighborhood. Similarly, Terrazas del Guitérrez in Patagonia is slated to open in 2028, serving as a gateway to the breathtaking landscapes of Bariloche. In Spain, new properties in Ronda and Estepona will highlight Andalusia’s rich Moorish heritage and dramatic landscapes. These additions will complement Hacienda del Mar, Bahia Estepona, a gem on the Costa del Sol, which will undergo a full rebranding in 2026.
Other additions include Residenza del Cardinale in Milan, blending historic architecture with contemporary elegance, and Casa Alameda in Cádiz, reviving an 18th-century Baroque palace into a 36-key boutique retreat.
Repositioning and Sustainability
Meliá continues its repositioning efforts in 2026, with several hotels undergoing rebranding and renovation to align with modern luxury expectations. ZEL properties in Fuerteventura, Crete, and Madrid will join Meliá’s lifestyle portfolio, unlocking their full potential while maintaining their unique identities.
Meliá’s design partnerships, particularly with ASAH Studio, ensure that every refurbishment not only meets aesthetic excellence but also embodies the brand’s commitment to modern luxury. These efforts unify the global portfolio while respecting each hotel’s individual story and cultural context.
Sustainability remains a key pillar of Meliá’s growth strategy. The enhanced Travel For Good program reflects the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. By integrating ESG principles into every aspect of operations—from carbon neutrality initiatives to supporting local education and culture—Meliá aims to create a lasting positive impact on every destination it operates in.
