Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto has unveiled his first residential project in the United Arab Emirates. The Baccarat Residences will be located on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. This marks a significant step for Fujimoto, adding to the island’s collection of iconic architecture.
Design inspired by Saadiyat Island’s coastline
The Baccarat Residences will consist of two white high-rise buildings. Their design features undulating, organic forms inspired by the shape of Saadiyat Island. The staggered floors reflect the island’s natural shoreline, creating a seamless blend between the architecture and its environment.
“The undulating curves form two distinct buildings that mirror the landscape and offer a smooth transition between architecture and the horizon,” Baccarat said.
Luxury living with breathtaking views
The project will feature 77 exclusive residences, ranging from two- and three-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom sky villas and two penthouses. These homes will offer stunning views of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
The interiors will be designed by Studio PCH, with neutral off-white tones and rounded shapes echoing the building’s wavy exterior. The amenities include a wellness center, a residents-only spa, and an outdoor infinity pool on one of the higher terraces, ensuring ultimate luxury for its residents.
An architectural landmark on Saadiyat Island
The Baccarat Residences will stand next to Saadiyat Island’s famous cultural institutions. These include Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the development will complement other architectural landmarks, such as TeamLab’s interactive art gallery and Foster + Partners’ Zayed National Museum.
Developed by Aldar, the Baccarat Residences will be close to Saadiyat Grove, a new luxury shopping center. This location solidifies Saadiyat Island as a premier destination for luxury living.
Jonathan Emery, CEO of Aldar Development, commented, “Baccarat Residences Saadiyat represents the pinnacle of luxury living in Saadiyat Cultural District, combining world-class architecture and cultural heritage.”
